Introducing the Mears Future Champions Initiative
Allow me if you will to introduce the guys at the Mears Group. So… ‘Who are they then?’ I hear you cry as one!
Well, for starters they are precisely the kind of ‘good people’ that we are proud to be associated with and support 100%.
Why?
I’ll tell you: The Mears Group (Day job = Local Authority Contractors) decided, way back in 2007, to do something to encourage sporting youngsters in Great Britain. Yes, in part to tip their corporate hat at the forthcoming Olympics but most importantly perhaps because they felt that they wanted to give something back to the communities in which they work day to day!
Mears developed and implemented a fantastic scheme that enabled them to discover and support a wide variety of young sportsmen and women both during their training and in competition. Of course all of the youngsters, though hailing from many different sporting disciplines, have one single united goal – To be the best!
Good stuff eh?
Thus far the Mears Group have found and sponsored in various ways (all good!) not one or two young athletes but a whopping 24 Mears Future Sports Champions with many sports being represented by these fabulous youngsters.
Two of the Mears Future Champs, Hadley Pressley (Sprinter) and Stephanie Gaynor (Hurdles) recently delivered their own programme of motivational talks and sports exercises to pupils at St Georges C of E Foundation School. (Hadley’s former high school) The future champs showed pupils warm up and sprint exercises and answered hoards of questions about their respective training schedules and diets from the excited students.
It was great for us to see this kind of dedication from the two Mears youngsters, so readily prepared to give of their own precious time in coaching the next generation. Brilliant!
Over the coming weeks we’ll be interviewing the Mears future champs and learn a little about them, their sports and how the Mears Group have helped them to develop as individuals.
